Why i download.

Why i download.

Postby aggi on Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:54 pm

Basicly this is a thread about downloading and why it sometimes to do so.

1.
tv shows - I find it unfair that shows like Ben10 are not shown on my cartoonnetwork till 1year later then it aired in the states so my only way is to download.
ITUNES does not have my country so i cannot buy it from there.

2.
Video games - video games here cost 102$ new and note that in my country there is a really bad ecomany so to buy this game i would have to work atleast 10hours.

3.
Movies - Movies in my country movies come out half year later then the states so once again its unfair.

one thing i don't really understand is why is there a DRM on the internet, there are no oceans on the internet why are there no store like ITUNES that give out content on the same time in everycountry.

overpricing content can be huge problem and is just the companys fault from the beginning and they most often treat consumers like crap.

i was really big fan of KYLE - XY that was canceled way back by BBC and it ended on a huge Cliffhanger i had to watch 4ads in everyepisode and suffer in my country for that and they treat me like that sorry.

I would really like to hear your opinions.

That's totally unfair, except the part about movies. It's unfair but that's the most tolerable about those three. The rest I totally agree with and I do it also  because things are a little late here as well.

I also do it even if it's totally fair  though I usually do it on things I can't afford or can't find, like shows from a channel I don't have or old movies, even some things that

Sharing (and receiving) is natural especially when it's about information, there's no need to give reasons.I would rather see of list of why RIAA and similar corporations should burn in hell.

"If I could loan out my physical books without giving up possession of them, I would. The fact that I can do so with digital files is not a bug, it's a feature, and a damned fine one. It's embarrassing to see all these writers and musicians and artists bemoaning the fact that art just got this wicked new feature: the ability to be shared without losing access to it in the first place. It's like watching restaurant owners crying down their shirts about the new free lunch machine that's feeding the world's starving people because it'll force them to reconsider their business-models. Yes, that's gonna be tricky, but let's not lose sight of the main attraction: free lunches!" -one of the best quotes on the subject,it explains exactly what I would otherwise write in 10 pages.

And don't get me started on copyright.

Mostly agreed. Though that's not to say everything should be free all the time.

I know you said you don't understand much about politics but give me one good reason why we still have money.

Art is art and needs are needs, don't paint if you just want to receive something for it and human needs are easily solved with today's technologies,in about 10 to 20 years scarcity could be forever abolished...If only we didn't have a system that insisted on creating poverty and scarcity.

No. I said I don't understand anything about politics  . You do have a point there though. It would have been better if everyone did something out of their hearts (though maybe not many people would be doing things.)

Downloading's awesome and I do it all the time. You don't need reasons. I don't see what's wrong with it because sometimes things aren't fair like Aggi said and sometimes corporations are just really greedy and stupid (I don't know politics either but that's the way I see things).

I believe paying for an indie band/artist on Bandcamp (or similar services) is almost necessary,at least out of respect. The awesome thing with Bandcamp is that the artists get 100% of the money and you can give as much as you want,in certain cases nothing at all if you so wish. But all real artists know most money comes from concerts and touring and that's the way it should keep being or else we will end up with monstrosities like Justin Bieber.
