Kurt Busiek is one of the bright lights in this arena but his ASTRO CITY both addressed and "fixed" this problem right off the top.

I'm throwing my hat in to write a JAck-in-the-Box mini if he ever opens it up but his current THE DARK AGE storyline has to be read to be believed.
