Milestone/DC agreement

I apologize if this question has been previously asked and answered, but does the Milestone/DC agreement have a definite end date? Could Milestone take the characters to Marvel (or another publisher) after the end of the agreement? Just something I started thinking about after the way Mr. McDuffie was treated by DC throughout his JLA run and its abrupt end . . .
