Orion Nominated for Educational Award
Friday, May 12th, 2006
I’ve previouly mentioned the Orion Graphic Novel series I worked on last year. I just thought I’d share the good news from an e-mail from series creator/plotter Marv Wolfman:
I wanted to let everyone know that the Impact educational graphic novels we did are up for an award from the Association of Educational Publishers. Thank you so much for your work. You can see the other nominees and categories at: http://www.edpress.org/awards/instmatwin.htm We’re 2/3rds down the page under Hi-Lo reading materials.
So congratulations to Marv and his team, Cary Bates, Andrew Foley, Barbara Kesel and the art studios who all helped put the books together.

Quadruple Bypass? Not So Bad.
Monday, May 8th, 2006I had significant blockage in four arteries that supplied blood to the front of my heart. The side effects of this condition hid the problems from several sets of doctors until a recent attempt at an angioplasty revealed the real trouble. Dr. Alfredo Trento, high thoracic muckety muck of Cedar Sinai Medical Center, performed a quadruple bypass on me Thursday and I’m back home as of this afternoon. I’m in very little pain and am walking almost normally. I feel better right this moment than I’ve felt in many years. They caught the problem before I even had a heart attack.
I’m cutting back on my workload for about 8 weeks but then I’m good to go. So Mr. D says, “Kids, ease up on the prime rib and stay in school!”
