Review: Hulk: WWH – Damage Control

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

“Dwayne McDuffie returns to the series that he created, and I honestly can't imagine anyone who could write the book with more wit and craft. In it, DC (ha!) head Ann-Marie Hoag convinces Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony "Iron Man" Stark to fund the $164 billion Manhattan reconstruction project (back when $164 billion in government spending was nearly unheard-of.) McDuffie manages to make the world of government construction contracts as entertaining and humorous to read as superhero clashes, which is no mean feat. “

Six Degrees of St. Elsewhere

Monday, January 26th, 2009

"The last five minutes of St. Elsewhere is the only television show, ever. Everything else is a daydream."

My old attempt at linking all fictional TV series via my stupid, yet sort of clever, Grand Unification Theory, then proving they don’t exist, gets way over-thought at, appropriately enough, Overthinkingit.com. There’s also a link to an insanely-detailed chart that visually represents dozens of TV crossovers. Click here for too much more…

STATIC SHOCK: REBIRTH OF THE COOL TP
Written by Dwayne McDuffie and Robert L. Washington III
Art by John Paul Leon and Steve Mitchell
Cover by John Paul Leon
Static, currently appearing in TEEN TITANS, is back in this new collection of classic stories from his hit Milestone series!
When a mutagenic gas accidentally gave him superhuman abilities, Virgil Hawkins was reborn as Static, the electrically powered teen Super Hero. And while Static tries to balance the pressures of his school work, after-school job and family life, he also protects his inner city neighborhood against villains including Holocaust and Commando X. Collecting STATIC #1-4 and STATIC SHOCK!: REBIRTH OF THE COOL #1-4.
Advance-solicited; on sale May 27 ’Ä¢ 192 pg, FC, $19.99 US

Static doesn’t actually live in the inner city, but close enough. Also, Commando X doesn’t show up until issue #5, so I don’t think he’ll be in this collection.

Click on the picture to see it full-sized. It’s a great cover.
